My Favourite Makes of Summer 2021

Summer is probably my favourite season to sew for.  I feel most inspired when planning for floaty summer dresses and pretty woven tops.  This year, the weather was particularly uninspiring but I still managed to make up a few things to see me through the season.  Here’s a quick run down of my top three makes from summer 2021. My frill collar blouse hack…. I’m never quite sure what to title this make but I guess the title I’ve given it is a pretty good description.  Early at the beginning of summer, I made a list of three things I’d like to make to add to my summer wardrobe this…

An Indigo/Lyra pattern mash up – possibly my new favourite dress…

Ah the midi dress trend, are you a lover or a hater?? I have to say, for a long while I was unsure about this oh so difficult length to get right, particularly in ready to wear dresses where my little old petite self would simply end up drowning in what should have been midi length and invariably turned out to be maxi and possibly a little bit more in the shops.  Enter yet another reason why I love being able to make my own clothes… I have to say though, I really like the midi dress trend.  I think it’s that little bit more flattering than maxi if you…

Sewing my first Lyra Dress by Tilly and the Buttons – A Sewing Pattern Review…

The minute Tilly and the Buttons brought out the Lyra Shirt Dress pattern, I knew it was right up my street and I had to have a go at it. I bought the pattern immediately and then, despite my initial enthusiasm, it sat in my stash for a little while while I admired all of the other lovely versions I saw people making up online. The pattern is described as a ‘romantic shirt dress’ which I think is a great description for it since it has the more formal style ‘proper’ shirt bodice and then the floaty romantic style ‘buffet style’ tiered gathered skirt at the bottom. If you’re looking…

My First Wildergown – a pattern and fabric review…

I absolutely loved the look of this Art Gallery Rayon fabric from Minerva particularly because of the beautiful rust/burnt orange colour of the print.  I loved it so much that it took me ages to decide what to make with it because I had so many ideas. I’ve been thinking about making the Friday Pattern Company Wilder Gown for a long while now too and after a lot of deliberation I decided that the Wilder Gown and this beautiful, floaty rayon would make a perfect match. I am 5’ 3” in height and although I absolutely love the look of the full length dress, I decided that, for my first…
