Minerva Blogger Network – Tilly & the Buttons Indigo Ruffle Hack

I don’t think I could love a pattern more than the Indigo at the moment! That’s not to say I was sold straight away though, when I initially saw the pattern release I thought it was lovely but I didn’t think the smock style would suit me as I’m quite petite. However, after stalking the hashtag on Instagram and seeing all of the other lovely versions out there I decided to go for it and make my own and I’m so glad I did. My first version I made without the flounce sleeves or the pockets in a beautiful mustard peachskin from Material Girl Laura. You can view this version…

The Avid Seamstress – The Blouse. A Tutorial in Collaboration with The Fabric Guys

This pattern has got to be one of my favourite patterns ever and it was a pleasure to make this one in this beautiful floral rayon from The Fabric Guys! I have always wanted a handmade blouse in my wardrobe but been put off by the collar stands and difficult cuffs that come with the making. In my opinion this pattern is the perfect introduction to shirt making, the instructions are clear and easy to follow and there are lots of little hints and tips along the way to help you out. I’ve made two versions now – for my first I loved the pattern image so much I used…

Minerva Blogger Network – Sew Over It Heather Dress

Another lovely Sew Over It pattern that I’ve been meaning to try out for months. This was on my list to make for Autumn/Winter 2019 and I’m so glad I have this pattern in my life. This dress is what I practically live in day to day when I’m just going about normal mum/work life but want to look at least somewhat put together. Pattern: Sew Over It Heather Dress Fabric: Textured Jersey gifted from Minerva, available to purchase here. I have to say that this fabric was amazing, so easy to work with and really comfy and warm to wear, I thoroughly recommend. Size: I made an 8 and…

Minerva Blogger Network – Sew Over It Pussy Bow Blouse

I have wanted to make this blouse for ages and ages but I was put off because I thought the cuffs looked a bit difficult. I chose this fabric not realising quite how sheer it was in real life but when it arrived it was so silky and beautiful I knew it couldn’t be anything else so I jumped right in and decided to tackle those cuffs with possibly the most difficult fabric I’ve ever worked with. No point in doing things by half hey… 😉 Pattern: Sew Over It Pussy Bow Blouse I bought the pdf version and printed at home. Fabric: Lady McElroy Spray Bouquet Chiffon, kindly gifted…

Minerva Blogger Network – New Look Kids 6205

This Bunnies on Bikes cotton fabric was too cute to pass up for my animal loving little girl so I snapped some up to make the New Look 6205 pattern for her which I’d had in my pattern stash for ages and not made up. Pattern: New Look 6205 – I made age 6 Fabric: Printed cotton fabric kindly gifted in return for a blog post, available to purchase here. Alterations: None at all other than that I made an age 6 for my 7 year old due to the amount of ease there was in the final garment. This fitted perfectly. Time to make: Approx 2-3 hours. I would…

Minerva Blogger Network – Christine Haynes Emery Dress

I absolutely loved my first version of this dress, I love the vintage style and the fact that it’s so wearable, and I knew as soon as I saw this beautiful white broderie anglaise that it would make a beautiful summery Emery. Pattern: Christine Haynes – Emery Dress Fabric: White Cotton Broderie Anglaise from Minerva Crafts kindly gifted in return for this blog post. Can be purchased here. Changes made: I left out the pockets on this version (I know!!!) but I didn’t want to interfere with the line of the dress since I’d lined it. Time to make: 3-4 hours I would definitely make this dress again – I…

The Perfect Beginner Jersey Dress – Coco by Tilly & The Buttons

I ordered 2.5 metres of this beautiful textured jersey from 1st for Fabrics because I have a mild obsession with stripes and also because I thought it would be perfect for the Coco pattern.  As always, the fabric arrived beautifully wrapped in pattern paper, with a handwritten note and a spool of cotton, from Julie which added a lovely personal touch. I’d not made the Coco pattern before but I had heard lots of good things about it, I love simple jersey dresses in the autumn and winter for wearing with tights and boots so I knew that this pattern would be a very useful addition to my wardrobe. As always,…

Sew Over It Ultimate Shift Dress Review

Pattern: Sew Over It – Ultimate Shift Dress  Fabric: Lightweight Rayon Challis – Bold Flowers & Stripes from 1st for Fabric I ordered 2.5 metres of this beautiful lightweight rayon challis from 1st for Fabrics because I absolutely love both stripes and florals at the moment and this fabric combined the two perfectly.  The fabric arrived beautifully wrapped with a note from Julie which added a lovely personal touch. At the time of ordering I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to make from the fabric but I knew I wanted to make a dress from it and that 2.5 metres should easily cover that. I deliberated for a…
