Pivoine Blouse Review – Delphine & Morissette

I made this blouse back last summer 2019 and, after posting pictures of it on Instagram, I had so many lovely comments, messages and questions about the making process that I kept saying that I would write a blog post on the pattern and I am just getting around to it now in May 2020!!  Lockdown does have some advantages, it’s giving me time to write up a lot of my makes and it’s lovely to get them done and remember what I loved about them. So, anyway, I had seen so many beautiful versions of this pattern around and fell in love with it.  I absolutely love French style,…

Five of My Favourite Sewing Tools

For this blog post I thought I’d do a little round up of my top five favourite and most used sewing tools.  I could have added many more but these are my current favourites J I’ve linked the products in each section if you would like to check them out for yourself.  Burda Tracing Paper Not sure if this can be considered a ‘tool’ but I guess it kind of is.  I absolutely love this stuff, since I trace off all of my patterns now I go through quite a lot of it. I’ve tried various types of paper (I’ve even tried greaseproof baking paper) for tracing patterns and I…

Mira Dress by Fibre Mood – My Review…

I have been eyeing up the Mira dress by Fibre Mood pretty much since it came out.  I absolutely love the boho style of this pattern, it has a touch of 70s style about it don’t you think?  I stalked the pattern for a while on Instagram and adored the versions that other sewists were making so I knew it wouldn’t be long before I had to give it a go myself. I have to be honest though, it was the gathering of those tiers that was putting me off a bit, gathering is not my favourite sewing task it has to be said. I was drawn to this Crepe…

DIBY Club Emmeline Gathered Dress Pattern Review

It was so lovely of the DIBY Club to get in touch with me and ask if I would like to sample and review one of their patterns.  I’d not heard of the brand before but a quick look over their website and I knew they would be right up my street. The DIBY (Do It Better Yourself) Club aims to teach you to make your clothes better than you can buy them with a focus on getting the perfect fit for your individual body size and shape. THE PATTERN I was asked to review the Emmeline Dress, a fit and flare jersey dress with a variety of sleeve and…

Sew Over It Ava Skirt Pattern and Fabric Review with The Fabric Guys

THE PATTERN I have wanted to make a Sew Over It Ava Skirt for ages and when I saw this super pretty needlecord on the Fabric Guys website I knew it would be perfect for this pattern.  I have a similar ready to wear skirt in corduroy and it’s just perfect for the autumn and winter months. I chose to make the mini version of this skirt without the pockets.  Leaving out pockets was not a decision I took lightly because we all love a pocket don’t we but I didn’t want the inseam pockets to interfere with the silhouette of the skirt in this fabric. I made a size…

The Avid Seamstress – The Blouse. A Tutorial in Collaboration with The Fabric Guys

This pattern has got to be one of my favourite patterns ever and it was a pleasure to make this one in this beautiful floral rayon from The Fabric Guys! I have always wanted a handmade blouse in my wardrobe but been put off by the collar stands and difficult cuffs that come with the making. In my opinion this pattern is the perfect introduction to shirt making, the instructions are clear and easy to follow and there are lots of little hints and tips along the way to help you out. I’ve made two versions now – for my first I loved the pattern image so much I used…

Minerva Blogger Network – New Look Kids 6205

This Bunnies on Bikes cotton fabric was too cute to pass up for my animal loving little girl so I snapped some up to make the New Look 6205 pattern for her which I’d had in my pattern stash for ages and not made up. Pattern: New Look 6205 – I made age 6 Fabric: Printed cotton fabric kindly gifted in return for a blog post, available to purchase here. Alterations: None at all other than that I made an age 6 for my 7 year old due to the amount of ease there was in the final garment. This fitted perfectly. Time to make: Approx 2-3 hours. I would…

The Perfect Beginner Jersey Dress – Coco by Tilly & The Buttons

I ordered 2.5 metres of this beautiful textured jersey from 1st for Fabrics because I have a mild obsession with stripes and also because I thought it would be perfect for the Coco pattern.  As always, the fabric arrived beautifully wrapped in pattern paper, with a handwritten note and a spool of cotton, from Julie which added a lovely personal touch. I’d not made the Coco pattern before but I had heard lots of good things about it, I love simple jersey dresses in the autumn and winter for wearing with tights and boots so I knew that this pattern would be a very useful addition to my wardrobe. As always,…
